Art and Design
The practice of Art & Design involves the creation of outcomes from where once there was nothing. Students are presented with opportunities and experiences to enable them to communicate their thoughts, feelings and ideas through visual means and are encouraged to develop individual responses to given tasks.
In order to support our students’ efforts and to maintain their interest and enthusiasm for this challenging work, a stimulating environment is created with resources to inform and inspire. Creativity is a risky business, with an individual’s self-esteem put on the line at every turn.
The Sanders Draper Art Teachers initiate activities that develop existing skills and demystify new ones. Practical experience results in many new discoveries and gives students both the confidence and the competence to express themselves successfully using an extensive range of materials.
The process of making is as important as the final outcome and among the many subject specific skills that students will experience during KS3 and KS4 Art & Design, they will develop: visual literacy; manual dexterity; sustained concentration and perseverance.
