The English Department
The English department consists of 8 highly motivated, innovative and committed teachers. We work together as a team and our goal is to improve the Reading,Writing, Speaking and Listening skills of all students at The Sanders Draper School.
Our lessons are Objective led and fulfil the requirements of the National Curriculum and the Framework For Teaching English. We constantly reflect upon the Teaching and Learning taking place within our classrooms and always strive to better ourselves to maximise the potential of every student. We enjoy using a variety of teaching methods and pride ourselves in teaching English using the latest technologies such as the interactive whiteboard.
Reading and appreciation of Literature is paramount in our lessons. Pupils are encouraged to read, both for enjoyment and to improve their basic literacy skills.
At Key Stage 3 all students have at least 1 literacy lesson per week so that we can focus on word level and sentence level skills such as complex sentences, apostrophes and speech marks.
At Key Stage 4 students sit their GCSE English Language exam in November of Year 11,leaving the remaining time of Year 11 to focus on GCSE English literature. Revision lessons are held after school, providing an excellent springboard for pupils’ independent revision at home.
All the department are committed to the importance of English and Literacy in the Curriculum and to creating a class-based positive working environment.
