Geography
Key Stage 4 information pack
At Key Stage 3 students do three Geography lessons per two week cycle. They are taught in mixed-ability groups and cover 6-7 Units each year. The Units are as follows;
Year 7 – It’s Geography!, Making & Mapping Connections, Settlement, Our Restless Planet, Exploring Britain, and Rivers & Foods.
Year 8 - People & Resources, Investigating Brazil, Ecosystems, Coasts, Crime & the Local Community and Weather & Climate.
Year 9 - Development, Economic Activity, The Global Fashion Industry, Coffee and Fair Trade, Local Actions - Global Effects, and Europe.
At Key stage 4 students do five Geography lessons per two week cycle. They are taught in mixed-ability groups but can pursue studies at the Higher (Grades A* to E) or Foundation (Grades C to G) level.
We follow the AQA (Specification A) syllabus. The Units are as follows;
Year 10. Settlement, Population, Tectonic Activity, River Landscapes and processes, and Ecosystems.
Year 11. Managing Resources, Weather & Climate, Industry, and Development.
There is also a single piece of Coursework (worth 25% of the final mark) which has been in recent years based on field work carried out at the RSPB Rainham Marshes Nature Reserve.
