Information Technology
Information Technology is developed at The Sanders Draper School both as a discrete lesson and on a cross-curricular basis teaching all students about the range and flexibility of both hardware and software with a view to it being incorporated in all areas of the curriculum.

Our aim is to ensure that all students acquire the skills necessary to fully utilise I.T. in their everyday lives. Our main target – ensuring that each student has the ability to use their I.T. skills, is to:
Communicate and handle information
Design, develop, explore and evaluate models of real or imaginary situations
Measure and control physical variables and movement
The backbone of students IT experience will be the use of:-
Databases, Spreadsheets, Word-processing, Desk Top Publishing (DTP), CD Rom Graphics, Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer Control Computer Modelling and Internet / Intranet
These are developed through use in all subjects using the following National Curriculum strands; Communicating and Handling Information Controlling, Measuring and Modelling.
Student Development
Information Technology is taught as a course in Key Stage 3 with students using I.T. to develop their own ideas and plans for specific tasks.
From day one students receive ‘hands on’ experience using state of the art equipment. In year 7 students are taught to use the main software programmes on the Dell network in preparation for use throughout their school life. As they progress through the school students will apply and develop their I.T. skills in a wide variety of contexts in different subjects. In year 11 all students are entered for the Edexcel Communication Systems GCSE which embraces both Business Studies and ICT.
The Internet is a valuable resource which offers students the possibility of conferencing facilities with other schools and a vast amount of information held on world-wide databases.
Rooming and Resources
The school places a strong emphasis on developing I.T. resources to give students access to the latest technology. To this end purchasing I.T. equipment has been a priority in recent years. We currently have four main computer rooms around the school for the teaching of I.T. and related courses. They are also available for any member of staff to use in their subject. In
some departments, such as CDT, Maths and Science, there are additional computers which fulfil a specialised need.
We currently provide a range of computer hardware which is at least the equal of any Havering school, offering a Student: Micro ratio of 1:6 Our resources are distributed throughout the school and currently include:
A Network of 120 computers located in four newly furnished computer rooms (30 stations in each room)
We run a network with XP and Office 2003
