PE

The PE department is a fully inclusive department that provides opportunities for students to participate and excell in many different areas. The Curriculum is adapted to allow for all students to achieve and be challanged. Extra-curricular provision is provided before school, at lunchtimes and after school. The department runs 6 football teams, 5 rugby teams, 7 Netball teams and enters into nearly all of the borough competitions. And at present the department is excelling in its indoor rowing achievement.

Ethos of the Department

Work within the PE Department is designed to support, contribute to and complement the aims of the school.

Physical Education aims to provide an enjoyable, satisfying and balanced programme, with the opportunity to develop physically, socially and emotionally.

Structured and developmental schemes provide for progression, challenge and a sense of achievement. The development of confidence, tolerance and an appreciation of one's strengths and weaknesses are considered to be an important part of the learning process.

We offer a GCSE course based on Sport, Anatomy and Physiology, the Theory of PE. This is offerrrd as a full GCSE at both year 10 & 11 and as a short course in years 9,10 & 11 as well as the Junior Sports Leader award, the dance leaders award and there is currently 1 group of year 10's taking a FA coaching course.

Assessment

All students are assessed during each block of activity and at the end of the block as a formal assessment, and are encouraged to check their progress through the assessment for learning board.

Extra Curricular Activities

Students participate in intra-school competition with 3 events a year; Personal challange; Indoor rowing; and culminating in a whole school sports day, where all the points from these competitions are added together to get a form winner.

Clubs -a number of clubs are run during the lunch hour, before school and after school a timetable is always displayed in the PE department and changes each term.

Some are for school teams, others are for those who wish to participate in a variety of sports and activities. All clubs are open to all students regardless of ability and gender.

The Department will continue to offer as wide a range of activities as possible and we are always looking to expand our curriculum.
