                                           Listening Service

A group of year 11 students have been busy interviewing younger students to become members of the school’s listening service. In a set up similar to The Apprentice the students have been interviewed as to why they think they would make good members of the school’s listening service. The service has been set up to help students deal with any problems they have in school and make them feel safe. Younger students are able to talk about any difficulties they may be having with work or friends and specially trained older students will listen and give advice. Sanders Draper prides itself on the support and care other students give each other and the listening service is an excellent way of allowing students to do this. They meet every lunchtime and are recognisable by the special sweat shirts and tee shirts they wear. Any student with a problem can go along and talk through whatever is wrong. If a problem is successfully resolved the students receive a piece of stationery with ‘sorted’ written on it showing they have used the service and it has been successful.

The year 11 students have clear ideas about who makes a good listener so the interviews were quite difficult and intense with students being asked to give their reaction to different situations and how they would help. Hopefully more students will get involved in the listening service and it will continue to develop allowing students to feel safe and supported in the school.
