Work Experience

In Years 10, the Careers Education programme is complemented by the school’s Work Experience Placement Scheme.

The work experience programme is a government initiative in which all Year 10 pupils are required to participate. Overseen by the school, all placements are processed through a company called Havering Business and Education Partnership Limited (HBEP). As the processing is both complex and time consuming it is imperative that deadlines are adhered to. In addition, family vacations should not be taken during the work experience period as this is officially classed as term time.

Students may choose one of two routes when deciding on their work placement. They can either accept a job allocated by HBEP or alternatively, may opt for a private placement arranged independently. If you wish find a placement independently for your child you will need to print off and complete the an own placement form which. Click here to download the form.

Students will be given appropriate responsibilities and will normally work the same hours as other staff, possibly including weekends. As companies offer their support voluntarily, the government stipulates that no payment be forthcoming.

In the case of private placements, both the school and HBEP need to verify the company’s suitability and ensure that it meets all government requirements before approval is sanctioned.
